On the hunt for shampoo for mens hair types? Awesome you are in the right place.
If you are reading this post it’s more than likely that you have just come from my YouTube video about Shampoo For Mens Hair Types or you’ve found me by searching for shampoo for mens hair on google. Either way, welcome to my hairy blog lol.
If you’ve never heard of me before, I’m Thomas or better known in the YouTube world as Thomas In Action. I’ve been creating hair videos on YouTube for a really long time now and I love sharing awesome hair content with my audience.
If you get value from this post, I strongly recommend you head on over to my YouTube channel and subscribe so you can stay updated and continue learning about mens hair with me (it’s a fun time)
First up, I wanted to give you a little context as to why I’ve create this post about shampoo for mens hair types.
Not so long ago I created a video on my channel about what you can do to help prevent hair loss from happening. In that post I featured an awesome hair growth shampoo called Watermans Grow Me Shampoo, that also has DHT blocking properties. I’ll explain more about DHT blocking properties and how they help prevent baldness later in this post, so don’t go anywhere just yet.
Now, when I mentioned that using a DHT blocking shampoo can be useful for preventing pattern baldness, I had a few of my subscribers ask me for a list of DHT blocking shampoos.
This is pretty much how this post came about.
On top of that, I genuinely love giving extra value, so I thought I’d include a range of other shampoo options that suit different hair types and conditions for men as well.
Shampoo for Mens Hair Types
Just to give you an overview, In the following section I’ll be covering the following types of shampoo for mens hair types:
- Hair growth & DHT blocking shampoos
- Dry and stripping shampoos for oily hair
- Anti dandruff shampoos and treatments for flaky scalp issues
- Restorative shampoos for damaged hair
- Moisturizing shampoos for dry hair
If you are interested in trying any of the listed shampoos, I’ve left links to where you can get them all. I’ve also included cheaper alternatives to the higher end shampoos that are listed so no matter what your budget, you should still be able to get a shampoo that caters for your hair needs.
List of Hair Growth & DHT Blocking Shampoos
In short DHT is the hormone that is responsible for male and female pattern baldness. By using a DHT blocking shampoo, it decreases the amount of the DHT hormone on your scalp and can significantly reduce your chances of suffering from pattern baldness in future.
In my experience, the one Hair growth and DHT blocking shampoo I’ve found most effective was the Watermans Grow Me Shampoo.
If you are familiar with my channel and are up to speed with my hair growth check-ins, you’ll know this shampoo was my holy grail during the growing out process.
As I was growing out my undercut I went through a range of awkward stages and was ferociously looking for something to help me grow my hair faster. On average my hair was growing 1 inch per month and after 1 month of using Watermans Grow Me Shampoo, I managed to boost my growth from 1 inch for the month to 1.9 Inches for the month. It was actually the most psycho thing ever.
My hair growth check-ins kind of document all the results I got with that shampoo and if you’d like to find out more about my hair growth journey, just click here.
Now on the other side of the coin, Watermans Grow Me Shampoo isn’t just catered towards people wanting to grow their hair faster. It’s also designed for people who are experiencing and wanting to prevent pattern baldness.
I bought the Watermans Grow Me Shampoo and Conditioner originally to help me with my hair growth journey, however, upon receiving it I noticed it was also labelled as a DHT blocking shampoo as well.
Because I’m a really curious guy, I was like, “what the F is DHT blocking”?
I didn’t really know much about DHT at the time so did some research and as I mentioned before, it turns out the DHT hormone is the main cause of pattern baldness in males and females.
This means by constantly using a shampoo like this, you are lowering the risk of DHT invasion on your scalp and lowering the risk of going bald. This topic is really technical and there is way more to it, however, if you do your own research on DHT and the effects it has on us in excess, you’ll find the same info I did.
Compared to all the other DHT blocking shampoos I could find on the market, Watermans Grow Me Shampoo was actually the cheapest. For some reason these shampoos are more expensive than regular ones you find in supermarkets, however, the science that needs to go into them is a little more complicated so it’s no wonder why.
The list I provided below contains 3 that I found that had some really good reviews. You’ll notice the most expensive one is nearly 60 bucks, which I personally wouldn’t be caught dead paying but I wanted to include a ton of variety just so you know what’s out there. See below.
List of Anti Dandruff Shampoos
If you watched my video about shampoo for mens hair types, you’ll know dandruff and flaking is something I personally struggle with the most in terms of hair care.
I unfortunately suffer from constant flaking and have had many attempts to figure out why. For some reason nothing I change in my diet seems to work and I’ve accepted the fact that dandruff and flaking is just something I have to deal with regularly.
In saying that though, my dandruff flares up and down. It’s not always as hectic as an avalanche in alaska and I have different products I use depending on the severity of my flaking. See below.
Head and Shoulders - $4
I don’t personally use this shampoo now but I have before and it:
1. Works well
2. Is affordable

Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo - $10.24
I like to call Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo the AK47 of anti dandruff shampoos. The main ingredient in this shampoo is coal tar.
Coal tar is amazing for removing dead skin and replenishing. This shampoo does contain sulphate though. It doesn’t leave your hair feeling incredibly nice but boy does it work well for chronic dandruff.

Bhave Scalp - $23.50
Bhave is one of my favourite hair care brands and they make really good quality products. Bhave scalp shampoo is incredibly soothing and I use it on regular basis when my flaking isn’t chronic.
The main ingredient used in bhave scalp shampoo is aloe barbadensis. Aloe barbadensis is just another name for aloe vera. It’s really soothing for skin and when you leave this shampoo on your scalp for a bit you can really feel it working it’s magic.

Davroe Hair Scalp Remedy Anti-Dandruff Shampoo - $31.95
Like bhave scalp, Davroe Anti Dandruff Shampoo also contains aloe barbadensis which is great, but it also contains peppermint oil which is also soothing for the scalp.

Another notable mention for anti dandruff solutions is Davroe anti dandruff lotion. Also very soothing for the scalp. I like to apply it every time after a wash and it helps me manage my flaking really well
