If your hair is looking and feeling a little dead or is just plain unmanageable, this post about deep conditioning treatments is for you…
Hey there, Thom Gardner here from Thomas In Action, If you are reading this post and have never heard of me, I’m a style and hair guru on YouTube and today I wanted to talk to you about the benefits of using a deep conditioning treatment on your hair...
With all the products and different styling methods you use on your hair, it can begin to lack in strength, hydration and overall healthiness which is why it’s so important to use nourishing treatments like deep conditioning.
In this post, we are going to have a look at who should use a deep conditioning treatment and some of the main benefits of this type of treatment.
We’re also going to be taking a good look at the fabulous bhave Deep Intense Conditioning Masque (This is the deep conditioning treatment I use in my hair) and we’re also going to walk you through step by step on how to use it.
Who Should Use Deep Conditioning Treatments?
I thought I should cover who should deep condition first, and the plain and simple answer is anyone who:
- Braids their hair
- Uses hot tools for styling
- Uses Hairstyling products like gels, clays, waxes etc
- Uses chemical treatments like chemical straightening or perms
- Uses bleach or dye to colour their hair
- Sulfate-based Shampoos (but I mean why would you? lol)
For me personally, I pretty much do the first 3 things on that list frequently and most certainly qualify for a treatment like this… how about you?
Anyway, the point is, the more stuff you do to your hair to manipulate it the more care you want to take with it. Some of the main benefits of using a deep conditioning treatment include:
- Helps Prevent Damage
The purpose of a deep condition is to penetrate the hair shaft and deliver new proteins and nutrients to the hair, repairing and rebuilding it from the inside out. By using a deep conditioning treatment on a regular basis and keeping the proteins of the hair replenished, your hair is far less prone to becoming damaged with styling. Even if your hair doesn’t feel damaged right now, a deep conditioning treatment is still very beneficial.
NOTE: When looking for a good deep conditioning treatment, try and find one that contains keratin. Keratin is the tough protein our hair is made of and is extremely useful for rebuilding the hair when used as an ACTIVE ingredient.
- Adds Moisture
Without moisture your hair is done, and not in a good way. When we use a lot of heat and other products in our hair, a lot of the moisture get absorbed by products or evaporated by the heat leaving it drier and far more prone to breakage.A deep conditioning treatment replaces that moisture helping to revive the hair and add what was lost from styling.
- Encourages Elasticity
By design, the body produces natural oils inside the scalp which keep the hair in a healthy state. However, there are many reasons why that oil may not be in abundance, whether it’s genetics or just a lack of care.Natural oils like argan oil are great for restoring elasticity to the hair and contributing to damage prevention. Any tension on hair such as tying a bun or simply brushing can easily break dry rigid hair. Although flyaways are inevitable, having a lack of elasticity is one way to get more.
So those are some of the main benefits you can expect from using a deep conditioning treatment and now I wanted to talk to you about the treatment I love using, bhave’s deep intense conditioning masque.
What’s So Good About bhave’s Deep Intense Conditioning Masque?
Just to give you a brief overview, I had a bhave keratin treatment done in 2014 and the results made me fall in love with the bhave brand right there and then. I actually filmed a video of me getting the treatment and if you’re interested in seeing how it works, here’s the video just below:
Anywho, so going back to the conditioning treatment they sell. I particularly like it because it:
- Is Paraben, Sulphate and Sodium Chloride Free
Parabens, sulphates and sodium chlorides are awful chemicals that strip your hair of its natural oils which contribute to poor hair health. This product is 100% free of those nasty suckers so I can stress less in that department knowing it’s only adding goodness!
- Contains Certified Organic Ingredients
Organic ingredients are the best! Although you can still get great nutrients from non-organic products, I really like knowing that the hair products I’m using in my hair have been made from the richest of ingredients, giving my hair the feel and look possible.
- Contains Bioactive Keratin
Now I could rant on forever about this topic but to keep it simple, keratin is the protein that your hair is actually made of and yes your body produces it.However, once the hair has left the follicle, it’s not possible for your body to replenish the keratin on its own which is why a product like this is so good for damaged hair. It penetrates and rebuilds the hair from the inside out with the exact protein that your hair is made from to begin with.
INTERESTING FACT: Keratin is sourced in many different ways. The protein can found in things like horse and cow hoofs along with many other things you don’t want to think about. Which are then melted down and the keratin is extracted. The problem with this method is:
1. It comes from a pile of mashed up dead animals
2. The heating process used to extract the keratin actually kills the protein and makes it inactive therefore deeming it useless…
A lot of brands will source keratin in this way and make out like their product is the most fabulous thing on the market when really they are just pulling the wool over your eyes and selling you dead keratin that does virtually nothing…
Speaking of wool, bhave have a much different way of sourcing the keratin they use in their products. bhave use bioactive keratin formulated from wool that is shawn off sheep in New Zealand during the Summer.
The environmentally friendly and fully renewable method used extracting the keratin keeps the protein's active which means your hair can actually use it to rebuild itself. You know how you hear a lot of beauty products talk about “active ingredients”?
Well, that’s exactly what it means, the ingredient is still alive, active and useful for your body. And how cool is it that no animal had to die to extract it…
How to Use Bhave Deep Intense Conditioning Masque
Step by Step Process:
Wash Your Hair
Usnig a bhave shampoo is beneficial as they also contain the bioactive keratin which works well with the conditioning masque.

In order to get the most out of this treatment your hair should be damp.

Evenly apply the Deep Intense Conditioning Masque to your damp hair.
